Why, GOD WHY!
I don’t know why LJ or any other sites where you can post stuff and change stuff around lets you create your own layout. 80% of pages I go to the layout is all fucked up. I’M ON A SCREEN RES OF 1600X1200!! NOT 800X600!
Here’s an tip: When going to use an image as a background, choose one that well look good tiled (ex. Neko the Kitty). Don’t use some image you looks great on your screen and fits well without testing it on ALL res and BROWSERS! On that note, don’t use just any image either. And if you ARE going to use a picture, use layers, they can be your best friend (use a layer for your background image, then another one for everything else, it’ll keep it everything nice looking too).
Another tip: Don’t over load your page with pictures and/or video/music. Try to keep things simple. No music videos in your My Space page, no 10K pictures in your LJ account (unless it’s behind a cut), not everyone is on a high speed connection. ALWAYS think about the unluckly few who only has dial-up.
Please, if you have the need to overload the one and only page you get with pictures that breaks the table layout or fill it with music videos, just don’t post it, or post a link back, do you know how? No? Well… if you know how to post pictures and/or videos then I’m sure you’ll be able to figure to link back to them instead.
